About this union

Local 142—one of Southwest Pipe Trades Association’s affiliated unions—has been an essential part of the city of San Antonio’s development for more than 115 years. During that time, their members have built, repaired, and/or renovated many of San Antonio’s past and present landmarks, along with community, convention, sports, and visitor attractions. They have also had a hand in building some of the city’s future historic structures.

With more than 1,000 members, the union represents workers who are engaged in pipe fitting, plumbing, welding, and HVAC service and shares deep relationships with signatory contractors. Their expertise covers safe water systems, medical gas piping systems, sanitary piping, process systems, and other piping products for a variety of sectors. They also have a local presence in the HVACR industry, where their work includes the installation, service, and repair of small rooftop systems to large central plants for refrigeration, chilled water, and steam.

In addition, Local 142 offers sponsored apprenticeship programs for people who are looking to better themselves through skilled work. These sponsored apprenticeships provide an opportunity for up-and-coming technicians to receive real-life hands-on training and technical instruction all while earning money to support themselves.

This union has worked at the city, county, state, and federal levels to provide its members with a steady flow of work. The city has benefited greatly from Local 142’s talented and skilled craftsmen and women. No job is too small or too large for the safe, productive, high-quality work performed by the technicians from the United Association’s Local 142.

As part of a union, you can take your fate into your own hands and secure a lucrative and rewarding career.
